Boulettes Larder
Posted January 3rd, 2009 in Inspiration and Locations
Happy New Year!! As we move into 2009 we are all thinking about taking better care of ourselves…eating delicious, real, unprocessed, seasonal food is and should be one of the priorities. My wonderful friends Amaryll Schwertner and Lori Regis immediately come to mind as I contemplate all things related to delicious food. They are two incredibly talented individuals who share my own passion for food, flowers, art and design. If you are in San Francisco anytime soon please take time to stop by their fabulous kitchen, cafe and private dining space, Boulettes Larder in the Ferry Building. If you are looking for the perfect location to host a small, intimate dinner party or celebration with unbelievable food and attention to detail be sure to book a night at Boulettes Larder. My dear friend and mentor Maria Vella provides all of the amazingly poetic floral arrangements for their private events and for the open shop/cafe space. I copied a bit of text from their website which details what exactly Boulettes Larder is all about and what they encourage with their work and their beautiful food…
- Be in tune with your hunger.
- Draw from the region’s best seasonal offerings.
- Consult the mise en place we have prepared for you.
- Respond visually and intuitively to the diverse palette of local and faraway flavors.
- Imagine a meal to sate your desires.
- Add your own joy and satisfaction, discretion, and spontaneity to complete seasonal meals at home.
Peonies in CT
Posted December 3rd, 2008 in Events, Inspiration and LocationsWe always welcome the opportunity to work outside of NYC. This year we traveled to the Caribbean, Europe, California and all over the Northeast. I first met Chris and Katie Humphreys in LA earlier this year. We were doing an event in downtown Los Angeles and they photographed every detail. They are not only fantastic to work with but they also do beautiful work. Chris and Katie enjoy traveling and working on destination weddings just as much as we do. We worked together again in Greenwich, CT several months after meeting in California. Here are some of the beautiful images they provided of our work at the CT wedding. It was a beautiful garden setting and a perfect summer day. I can’t believe how amazing those yellow tree peonies were!! They were huge and lush…incredible! You can see more of their photographs at http://chrishumphreys.com/
Cheese “Cake”
Posted November 14th, 2008 in Advice and Inspiration
I had to share this image from the Tribeca wedding referenced in my previous post. The bride and groom are both crazy cheese lovers and they are not fans of wedding cake. Our solution…amazing cheese stacked to look like a wedding cake and embellished with fresh orchids…again, just like a wedding cake! I even gave the “cake” a lift with a beautiful, dark wood pedestal. I thought the cheese was such a great solution and obviously a perfect ending to any lovely meal. If you aren’t big on sweets consider a fabulous cheese selection for dessert or your wedding cake!

Details
Posted November 12th, 2008 in Events and InspirationI recently worked with Dave Robbins (www.daverobbinsphotography.com) who provided these amazing, beautiful detail shots from a wedding we designed in Tribeca. We used a range of deep plum and purple tones with accents of moss and sage green. Texture was also very important in all of the floral arrangements. There were many succulents, vines and seed pods along with fabulous orchids and other exotic accents. These are only details. We will soon post a beautiful gallery on our site in the event portfolio and we will also feature more images on the blog. I hope to write a bit about the bride and her amazing guests. She is so cool and had the most incredible special guest/family member who walked her down the aisle and performed at the wedding…more details later!
black and whites
Posted October 16th, 2008 in InspirationWe recently developed an obsession with black and white cookies. One of our wonderful clients is giving these classics away as her favor this coming weekend and both of us realized we have never stopped to give the NY favorites a real try. So, we started to sample black and whites from all over the city trying to find the best of the best. We took the advice of many online reviews and tried William Greenberg Jr. Desserts on the Upper East Side. (http://wmgreenbergdesserts.com) These little beauties won our hearts and turned us into Black and White cookie lovers!!! The cookie like base has the perfect amount of cake texture and the frosting is to die for! Try them out if you haven’t already!!!
Vintage Containers
Posted October 1st, 2008 in Inspiration
Anyone that knows our studio or our work is familiar with my collection of vintage containers. I find so much inspiration in unique objects and vessels to hold centerpieces and various other arrangements. I’m always looking for a fabulous new vase, glass, pitcher, bowl or compote.
Vintage silver is one of my absolute favorite things to work with. It can be classic & elegant or extremely funky & eclectic depending on the setting & the flowers. I often use tarnished silver for an even more dramatic, vintage look.
Here are some amazing images from photographer Roey Yohai taken at one of our events in NYC. Roey really captured the amazing details in the vintage silver along with the unique shapes & silhouettes featured in these wonderful vessels.
Glassy Baby Forever
Posted September 24th, 2008 in General and InspirationWe recently decided to feature these gorgeous little hand blown votives out of Seattle. We were waiting for the perfect event for glassbaby & it finally arrived! We used them as part of the table & room decor for a beautiful event last weekend at the Four Season Restaurant and they were the talk of the party. They come in every color under the sun and have the most charming names (i.e. first kiss, tutu, hidden moss and prom dress). They are perfect little vases if you need a small vessel, but the real magic comes when they are illuminated. They have a magical glow that really brings the array of splendid colors to life. It is always such a treat to discover a wonderful new product that adds so much to an event.
Check out their website at www.glassybaby.com! They have a fantastic customer service team and could not be more helpful and sweet!
We are forever glassybaby fans!
Wedding Cake Toppers
Posted September 3rd, 2008 in Inspiration
Julie Taras Wallach, my friend & very recent client emailed a link to the most adorable wedding cake toppers. They are so great & I wanted to share the link with everyone. Great toppers aren’t easy to find.
I always recommend Ann Wood who creates handmade birds for cake toppers from vintage fabrics.
Julie Taras Wallach’s wedding is featured in a gallery on our site.
She used Patch NYC for her cake topper, but please have a look at this new source Julie found.
To the left is a photo from this collection. They would be perfect for bride/groom, groom/groom or bride/bride. They are custom, so you can order any combo appropriate for your special day!
Julie is one of my favorite clients ever & she owns a wonderful restaurant here in NYC…Little Giant. Please visit her restaurant. She is so talented & passionate about her work & you will not be disappointed.
Moroccan Party in California
Posted August 23rd, 2008 in Events, Gallery, Inspiration and LocationsWe haven’t received the professional photos of this event but I thought you would all enjoy images from my own camera for a peek at a wonderful party we did earlier in the year. The party was outside of Los Angeles near Newport Beach. The fabulous Lyndsey Hamilton of LHE was the planner for this party & she introduced my team to the very cool client. We had a great time designing this event. I called Raj Tents to install a magical Moroccan world in the garden & pool areas of the property. The client’s home was already full of inspiration for this exotic decor so it all worked perfectly & her husband was delighted by his surprise birthday party!
We Love Orvieto!
Posted August 19th, 2008 in Events, Gallery, Inspiration and Locations
We just returned from our fabulous trip to Italy!
We had such a fantastic time and can’t wait to share some pictures with you. As you may know from our first post, the wedding was in a small town about an hour north of Rome called Orvieto–which is known for its intricate lace, delicious black truffles, wild boar and white wines. We couldn’t help but instantly fall in love with this environment and the locals.
We have a few great photos of Paola the local wedding planner and Cristina who owns the restaurant used for the reception. These will be posted soon, but for now here are a few snapshots from the trip, enjoy!
Stay tuned for more…
